I remember participating in the very first unboat race with a friend, I believe in June 1975. We flipped our 4x8 unboat going over the Horn Rapids Falls but got hooked up with another group out of Vancouver who had a larger unboat. They wanted our oars and we needed a tow.

Worked out great as we came in third place after practically starting dead last. In the end, I had lost my shoes (stuck somewhere in the muddy bottom of the river, got real sunburned and skin peeled for weeks, and had to walk barefoot almost two miles home while helping my friend carry our raft. The temperature was in the high 90's so you can imagine how hot the pavement was!
